Step 1 Start by unpacking your belongings. Don't even think of hosting a housewarming party until you are settled into your house or apartment.
Step 2 Make a list of people you would like to invite to your party and send out invitations. Mailing invitations will increase the chances of guests coming to your party, as opposed to calling or emailing them. Make out invitations and mail them 4 to 6 weeks before your party. Include your phone number to RSVP.
Step 3 Either on the invitation itself or when guests call to RSVP, explain that in lieu of gifts you would prefer they bring a dish to pass, snacks, or alcohol, depending on what kind of party you are planning on hosting. Saving yourself the time it would take to get the food ready, for example, will be worth a lot more to you than another nick-knack.
Step 4 Be sure to keep a list of who is coming and what they are bringing. If you would prefer your guests bring alcohol, be sure to have snacks available. If guests are bringing food, be sure to have drinks available.
Step 5 Two weeks before the party, make sure you have all the supplies you will need on hand to make the party a success. Make sure your guests are as comfortable as possible in your new place.
Step 6 Try to keep your house as clean as possible from the time you mail out the invitations until the day of the party. This will save you the stress of cleaning at the last minute. Then you have time on the day of the party to be sure all the details are in place- light some candles for ambiance and clean up any random clutter that has accumulated.
Step 7 Greet each guest as he or she arrives. Then sit back and enjoy your party!
